In time where data science sips from the computer programming well, I aggree with @Deve: I have the chance to work in both image and vibration processing (acoustics, geophysics), and both domains can improve by exchanging ideas, even if this is not the mainstream. A major conference like ICASSP still has a lot of image processing talks.
